References in this Part to a "child" or "children" refer to Junior members and also to all other individuals under the age of 21 who use the Club, including Pre-Juniors and guests. The provisions of this part generally apply to all such children, except where stated to apply specifically to "members" or "Pre-Juniors."
1. Pre-Juniors. A child of a Resident Active member is entitled to Club use without application, and without payment of dues, prior to his or her ninth birthday. Children of Resident Active members under age 9 are referred to as "Pre-Juniors." The Pre-Junior privileges described above cease when a child reaches age 9: each child of an Active member must apply for and be accepted into Junior membership if he or she is to have continued use of the Club after his or her ninth birthday.
2. Duty to Supervise While at the Club:
(a) Pre-Juniors and other children under age 9, at all times, and
(b) children under age 16, after 8:30 pm,
must be in the company of, and supervised by, an Active or Social member or an attendant with a Nanny Pass, except while participating in a Club-approved activity suppervised by a Club employee or contractor, such as a tennis clinic or swim team practice.
5/23/24: Rule regarding supervision clarified by the Board.
3. Lobby Areas. Children under age 18 may not use the lobby areas on the second and third floors except when in the company of (i) an Active or Social member or (ii) that child's parent.
4. Racquet Room. Children under age 9 may not use the Racquet Room (the upstairs area of the Pro Shop building) except when in the company of (i) an Active or Social member or (ii) that child's parent.
5. Use of Food and Beverage Facilities. Children are not permitted in the Players' Lounge. Children may not use the Players' Lawn when it is set for dining unless ordering from the menu or in the company of an Active or Social member. Food ordered from the Snack Bar by a child must be eaten at the Snack Bar, on the Snack Bar patio or in the Canoe Club unless the child is in the company of an Active or Social member.
6. Dress. Children are expected to be appropriately dressed for the activity in which they are engaged and the area they intend to use while at the Club. Children must also comply with generally applicable dress rules in Chapter 111 and the tennis dress code in Chapter 120.
7. Discipline of Junior Members. See Chapter 241, Part D). The General Manager and supervisory staff are responsible for ensuring that the rules of the Club are observed and may apprehend or otherwise discipline Junior members in violation of the rules. Staff is expected to exercise judgment in the interpretation and application of the Club rules.
8. Other Provisions. Various other rules and policies apply only to (or differently to) Junior members. These include, without limitation:
Dues and initiation fees (Chapter 110)
Dropping children off (Chapter 111)
Court use and reservation rules (Chapter 121)
Tennis Week participation (Chapter 123)
Swimming pool, hot tub and beach rules (Chapter 131)
Fitness room rules (Chapter 133)
Gymnasium reservations (Chapter 134)
Squash court reservations (Chapter 135)
Privileges generally (Chapter 141)
Retention of membership through parents (Chapter 141)
Eligibility for Nonresident membership (Chapter 146)
Complimentary membership in certain unusual circumstances (Chapter 240)
1. Issuance. Nanny Passes will be issued on an annual basis on authorization of an Active member. Each Pass is specific to the family of the Active member who authorized it, and can only be used when supervising children in that family.
Active members may have multiple nannies. However, only one of a family's nannies is permitted on the Club premises at a time.
On one occasion (December 5, 2024), the Board approved a nanny pass permitting multiple nannies for a member with a disability.
2. Age Limits. A nanny cannot be under the age of 16.
A Nanny Pass will not be issued for the supervision of a child older than 11 unless there are special circumstances. Issuance of a Nanny Pass to supervise a child older than 11 requires pre-authorization by the General Manager.
3. With Children. The nanny must be in the company of the children he or she is responsible for at all times.
4. Presentation of Pass. The nanny will be required to show his or her Nanny Pass at the guardhouse every time he or she enters the Club.
5. Ordering Food. The nanny may order from the Snack Bar, Grill or Canoe Club using the member’s account number (if authorized) or pre-paid cash cards. This food must be consumed with the children.
No alcoholic beverages may be purchased by the nanny.
(a) Beach. The nanny may use the beach with the children; however, the nanny may not use the beach facilities for his or her own recreation.
(b) Pool. The nanny may sit on the pool deck while the children take swim lessons or participate in swim team meets or practice. The nanny may swim in the pool, but only when the children being supervised are also in the pool.
(c) Tennis. If the nanny needs to hit tennis balls with the children for practice, he or she must be signed in by an Active member as a guest. Normal guest rules apply, with the exception that a nanny registered as a guest may remain at the Club after the host member member leaves.
