Each class of member shall be entitled to certain guest privileges, the extent and limitations of which
shall be determined by the Board of Trustees.
Article I, Section 4
Sponsoring members of guests shall automatically assume all liabilities for charges incurred by their guests.
Article IX, Section 1
1. Registration Required. All guests for athletic use of the Club must be registered at
(a) the Pro Shop, for tennis and pickleball, or
(b) the guardhouse, the Club office or the fitness room, for all other athletic activities.
Members with unregistered guests are subject to a thirty-day suspension from the Club.
For the purpose of this Chapter "athletic use" and use of the "athletic facilities" includes, without limitation, any use of the tennis courts, fitness room, pool, hot tub, beach, pickleball court, boathouse, docks, gym or locker rooms. It does not, however, include use of the spectator viewing areas or the pro shop, or attendance at a social event. Registration is not required for use by guests of facilities other than the athletic facilities.
(a) Limits on Number of Visits. An individual may be a guest for use of the athletic facilities only if:
(a) the number of times that individual is such a guest of members who are not Single Active or single JSP members in a calendar year does not exceed six; and
(b) the number of times that individual is such a guest of any member (including Single Active or single JSP members) in a calendar month does not exceed two.
1/24/13: Permanent increase in annual limit from three to six approved.
Exceptions to this rule appear below and in Chapter 129.
(b) Limit on Daily Guests. With the exception of the dining facilities (which does not include the snack bar), no Single or Joint Active Member may bring more than eight (8) guests on any day without prior approval by the General Manager or manager on duty at least 48 hours in advance.
4/27/17: Limit on daily guests adopted on a trial basis. 9/28/17: Limit on daily guests adopted as a standing rule. 10/26/17: Reference to snack bar inserted into limit on daily guests;
(i) Junior members age 9 to 15 and Pre-Juniors (under 9) may not bring guests for use of any Club facility, except that Junior members may bring guests for use of the dining facilities on request of a parent and with approval of the General Manager.
(ii) Junior members age 16 and 17 may bring guests as if they were Single Active Members, but are limited to one guest per visit.
(iii) Junior members over age 17 may bring guests as if they were Single Active Members.
(iv) Junior members and their guests may be excluded from some areas of the club, such as the Players' Lounge. See Chapter 113.
12/6/12: Provision in (ii) regarding 16- and 17-year-olds adopted.
(d) Nonresident Members. Nonresident Active and JSP members are permitted guests only in the 30 days per year they have use of the Club. The limit on number of visits applies to those guests.
(e) Special Occasions. The Board or the General Manager may determine that guests will not be allowed for a particular event or occasion (e.g. the annual Open House), or that only guests of particular categories or groups of members (e.g. Single members and JSPs) will be allowed for such event or occasion.
(a) Current Guest Fees are set forth in Chapter 110.
(b) Exemption From Guest Fees. Each Single Active and single JSP member may bring a guest for use of the athletic facilities twice per month without payment of any guest fee (e.g. by bringing the same guest twice, or by bringing two different guests).
1/02: Exception for single members in two rules above modified to eliminate requirement that guest be of opposite sex.
(c) Special Occasions. The Board may determine that a guest fee will not be charged – or that a guest fee, which may be different from that specified in Chapter 110, will be charged – for a particular event or occasion.
(a) Social Members as Guests. A Social member may be a guest of an Active member or a JSP member for athletic use of the Club subject to the same limitations applicable to other guests.
(b) No Guests Without Hosts. Members may not grant permission for non-members to use the Club facilities in their absence. Non-member guests cannot, therefore, remain on the Club premises after the host member leaves.
(c) No Ad Hoc "Guests." Members are not permitted to lend Club cards to non-members or otherwise allow use of the Club facilities in their name except as provided in these rules.
5. USTA Teams. A nonmember or Social member who belongs to a Seattle Tennis Club USTA team may be a guest at the Club for the purpose of participating in team practices during the team's weekly scheduled practice times during the month leading up to and during the regular season and, should the team advance, through the post-season. If the team does not have scheduled team practices, such a nonmember or Social member may practice at the Club one time per week, provided that (i) at least one Active member is also on the court and (ii) advance approval by the Director of Tennis has been obtained (email authorization is acceptable).
Such a guest must register and pay guest fees, but participation in such practices will not count against the limits on number of visits in Section 2(a).
6. Nonresident Guest Cards. Any Active member or JSP member may request a guest card for a nonresident visitor twice annually. Guest cards will be issued upon approval of the General Manager, and may not be used until approved and issued. The current fee for such a card is set forth in Chapter 110. Limit is a maximum of two weeks per year.
The nonresident guest card entitles the holder to full use of the Club social and athletic facilities without the member being present. Persons issued a nonresident guest card may bring guests for use of the Club social facilities only.
1/03: Modified.
