B. Major Policies

1. Mission Statement. The Seattle Tennis Club tennis program shall, with the leadership of top professionals, advance competitive and social play for all ages and abilities, promote sportsmanship and camaraderie, and maintain a premier tennis facility.

2. Authority and Areas of Responsibility.

The Tennis Committee shall review, and advise and make recommendations to staff and the Board regarding, (i) all tennis and pickleball activities of the Club, including tournaments, league play, staff professional court usage and general open play for eligible members and (ii) all other athletic activities that occur on the tennis and pickleball courts.

3/19/14: Amendment reflected the oversight of the squash program by the Athletic Committee, rather than the Tennis Committee.

3/24/20: Amendment rewrote this Section and others to
(i) make the description of the role of each standing committee reflect actual practice and the Board’s intention (informed by input from each committee), and to make the wording of the descriptions more consistent and
(ii) make more minor changes to the description of the composition of committees and the like.

The Tennis Committee shall formulate rules and policies for access to, allocation of and use of tennis and pickleball courts, subject to approval of the Board of Trustees. The Tennis Committee has the authority to enforce those rules. The Tennis Captain has the authority to suspend members from the use of the courts for periods up to thirty (30) days.

3. Makeup, Subcommittees. The Tennis Week Committee Chair shall attend Tennis Committee meetings during the months of February through June.

4. Pickleball Subcommittee. The Pickleball subcommittee of the Tennis Committee shall review – and advise and make recommendations to staff, the Tennis Committee and the Board regarding – pickleball activities of the Club.

10/24/19: Created the Pickleball subcommittee.

C. Procedures

1. Meetings. The Tennis Committee meets at 6:00 pm on the second Thursday of April through October, except July, or at such different or additional times as determined by the Chair.

2. Pro Shop Mission. The Pro Shop shall promote member play by serving as the chief point of coordination for all of the Club’s Tennis programs, lessons, and general scheduling needs; the Pro Shop shall also offer the latest in high-quality tennis apparel, shoes, equipment, accessories and other sportswear to meet the needs of its membership.

2. Adoption and Modification. The procedures in Part C may be adopted and modified by resolution of the Tennis Committee, so long as they are consistent with the major policies in Part B, other Club rules and policies and any action by the Board of Trustees.
